Réseau FADOQ is the largest association of people aged 50 and over in Canada, with more than 580,000 members. Our organization makes representations to various bodies with the aim of maintaining and improving seniors’ quality of life today and tomorrow. We take every opportunity to raise awareness and ensure that the voices of seniors are represented and considered, especially concerning political issues.
Income and retirement
Improving public pension systems and protecting private savings for retirees and future retirees are priorities for Réseau FADOQ. In this regard, it:
- Lobbies the Canadian government to increase the Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
- Supports keeping the retirement age at 65
- Calls for a review of the method of indexing the Old Age Security program
Health and abuse
Seniors’ health and elder abuse are key issues for Réseau FADOQ. In this regard, it:
- Advocates for preservation of a high-quality, accessible universal healthcare system that prioritizes home care and support
- Raises awareness among seniors and their families about abuse and fraud with the Senior-Aware program
- Advocates for an inclusive approach to leisure that promotes active aging
- Advocates for subsidies or RAMQ coverage for dentures, glasses, and hearing aids
- Advocates for the creation of new healthcare professional/patient ratios tailored to senior’s needs
- Calls for an increase in the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) to give provinces and territories the means to provide adequate care and services to their populations.
Residences and housing
Réseau FADOQ is a leader on private seniors’ residences. It also advocates for the rights of senior homeowners and tenants. In this regard, it:
- Calls for enhanced safety and dignity for seniors in housing centres, long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) and seniors’ residences
- Monitors enforcement of housing rights for seniors who are homeowners or tenants
Experienced workers
Réseau FADOQ works to change perceptions about experienced workers and calls for measures to help them access and stay in the job market. In this regard, it:
- Raises awareness among all stakeholders about the value of experienced workers
- Calls for tax incentives that encourage experienced workers to stay in the job market
- Advocates for a flexible approach to managing human resources that is responsive to the various stages of life
Caregivers
Réseau FADOQ works to ensure better support for caregivers from various levels of government. In this regard, it:
- Advocates for an increase in financial assistance and support for caregivers
- Calls for increased employment protection for caregivers
