Brief – Standing Committee on the Status of Women
This brief was presented to the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women to highlight the challenges faced by elderly women in Canada.
Réseau FADOQ recommended extending a deceased person’s Old Age Security benefits for three months for the benefit of the surviving beneficiary. The network also stressed the importance of increasing the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
The situation of caregivers was also a central topic. Réseau FADOQ argued strongly in favour of raising the maximum weekly earnings threshold for caregiver benefits so that the amount granted is more in line with the income of these beneficiaries.
