In the shoes of an older person: aging and well-treatment
Dans la peau d’un aîné [In the Shoes of an Older Person] is an entertaining and interactive workshop designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the reality of seniors and foster behaviours and attitudes to promote well-treatment of older people.
In this workshop, participants take six tests designed to build awareness of certain age-related issues: vision, hearing, mobility, agility, cognition, and grief. Each activity is followed by a discussion period to allow participants to reflect as a group on the behaviours and attitudes to be adopted in each situation. By the end of the session, participants will have become more sensitive to agism and will know how to interact appropriately with the elderly in different contexts and scenarios.
The first workshops were held in the Bas Saint-Laurent region as part of a regional agreement to improve living conditions for seniors [Entente spécifique sur l’adaptation régionale pour l’amélioration des conditions de vie des personnes aînées 2013–2017]. The Table multisectorielle des aînés du Témiscouata and FADOQ – Région Bas-Saint-Laurent jointly organized 50 workshops in the Témiscouata area. In 2017 Réseau FADOQ announced that the program would be deployed across Quebec.
