Hubert Saint-Jean’s History

Founded in 1923, Sherbrooke’s Hubert Saint-Jean was a pioneer in the world of coffee. From modest beginnings on Brooks Street, the project was launched with a budget of $9.73. Driven by Hubert’s unwavering passion, the business grew from strength to strength. A few decades later, it took up residence in the family’s new home on King Street West.

After decades of perseverance and dedication, Hubert retired and handed over the reins to his son, Michel Saint-Jean. Aware of the importance of coffee freshness, Michel invested in a roasting oven with increased capacity, from 5 kg to 13 kg. This investment propelled the company to new heights, gradually occupying the entire family home for its operations.

After many years of loyal service, Michel decided to sell the company in 2008 to devote more time to his family. From 2008 to 2018, the company was run by a passionate team, but over time it lost the very essence of its creation: a place for sharing and discovery.

In May 2018, Marc-Antoine Crépeau and his team took over the reins with the firm intention of restoring the company to its former glory. Their primary objective was to refocus the business on coffee and to reconnect with community involvement, in the image of what the Saint-Jean family did back in the day. Marc-Antoine, a seasoned barista and inveterate coffee enthusiast, took over the business with the same fervor as the founders. His ambition was to offer a fresh, innovative product, while preserving the coffee heritage and tradition for which Hubert Saint-Jean is renowned.
