Réseau FADOQ to plant 50,000 trees for future generations
Réseau FADOQ is going green in 2020 with a firm commitment to joining the fight against climate change.
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Canada’s largest organization for people age 50 and over will plant 50,000 trees over the next year in partnership with Eden Canada, an NGO committed to fighting climate change by conserving and restoring ecosystems and preserving biodiversity around the world. Of this number, 500 trees were planted on June 9 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, birthplace of Réseau FADOQ.
“This is a symbolic gesture made by our organization to demonstrate the strength of our commitment to ensuring a good quality of life for future generations. This year we will also table our very first green policy, which will introduce a number of eco-responsible measures to guide our behaviour, actions, and events,” said FADOQ chair Gisèle Tassé-Goodman.
Maintaining strong intergenerational ties
This environmental initiative dovetails seamlessly with the intergenerational mindset that Réseau FADOQ has always espoused.
“When our organization gets involved in a social issue, it does so for current and future seniors. We must maintain strong ties between generations, and concerted action to protect the environment is a great way of doing that,” said Ms. Tassé-Goodman.
The trees will be planted in partnership with Eden Canada and Ferme Guyon, and the project will be made possible thanks to support from Intact Insurance and SSQ Insurance, the official sponsors of Réseau FADOQ’s 50th anniversary.
