Important information about the Dental Care Plan
The Government of Canada reassesses the eligibility of individuals covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan each year. To continue benefiting from the plan in 2025, here’s what you need to know:
Renewal
You must renew your coverage each year to confirm that you still meet all eligibility criteria. You can proceed with renewal after filing your 2024 income tax return and receiving your Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Additionally, you will receive a letter from the Government of Canada informing you that you need to renew. It will also include instructions on how to do so.
You can renew online or by phone.
Deadline: June 1, 2025
If you do not renew by June 1, 2025, your coverage may be interrupted. Individuals who are no longer eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan or who do not renew will see their coverage end on June 30, 2025.
If you do not submit your renewal request by the deadline, you can still do so afterward. However, your coverage may be temporarily interrupted, and it will not be retroactive.
Renewal confirmation
Once your renewal request is completed, you will receive a decision letter confirming your eligibility for the plan. It will specify the start date of your new coverage. This coverage will be valid until June 30, 2026.
Check your new coverage
The decision letter will also indicate any changes to your coverage.
Check all the information in your decision letter to confirm any changes, including adjustments to your co-payment level (if applicable), as it may differ based on your family’s net adjusted income for 2024. In short, the amount to pay for certain services may change.
