On weekends, Arturo Macias mounts his bike and rides between 40 and 50 kilometers.
“When I’m not cycling, I’m out in the mountains with a group of friends,” he says proudly. Some of them are 40 years younger than me. We hike from 5 to 10 kilometers. I recently climbed the legendary Acropole-des-Draveurs trail in the Charlevoix.”
In 2023, in the company of his daughter Yara, the octogenarian made at least four 10-day trips to Las Vegas, Mexico, Germany and Spain.
“I can’t be still for long. You should see me dancing in the kitchen while I cook my food. I dance! I swing to the music I love. The important thing is to move all my muscles.”

“I teach Spanish part-time. Some of my students tell me I’m their idol,” he says with humility.
A FADOQ member for about a year, he joined mainly because of the discounts offered, since he needed a hearing aid. He believes that FADOQ does an excellent job of defending and promoting seniors’ rights.
