Danielle Buteau admits straight away that she doesn’t do much you could call out of the ordinary. But at 77, she still feels she’s defying her age for the simple reason that she’s just as active as she was at 50.
The Montrealer is very independent and loves to have fun with her friends.
“I consider myself quite fit for a woman of my age. I’m lucky in that I don’t have any health problems. I own a condo that needs maintenance, and I make a point of attending all the condominium meetings. It’s essential to keep my brain active.”
Danielle Buteau is determined to get out as much as possible and keep her legs moving.
“I’d be lying if I said I went out every day, but I manage to do my shopping on foot. It’s good for me to go for a walk in the Atwater Market, to meet people.”
The septuagenarian admits that she doesn’t go on long trips like she used to. However, she is a fan of short trips lasting three or four days. She really enjoys organizing getaways with friends.
“This summer, I took a few cruises with AML. I also went to see a show presented by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the Bécancour region. I love horses and we were able to visit the Mounties’ stables. It was a nice little day trip.”
For Ms. Buteau, aging remains a challenge, but she believes you have to hold your head high even in the autumn of life. And if, by some misfortune, little bumps do occur along the way, you just have to deal with them. “You don’t know how you’re going to feel tomorrow, so you might as well enjoy life today,” she says.
A FADOQ member for some 20 years, Danielle Buteau loves reading Virage magazine, which is interesting and useful. During the pandemic, she took advantage of the exercise sessions offered FADOQ presented on Zoom. A blessing in disguise, she says, as it enabled her to stay active during this difficult period.
