Retired for a year and a half now, Diane Lachance is grabbing life by the tail. At 62, this woman from Pierrefonds in Montréal feels she has energy to spare, and she has no intention of slowing down. No way!
“People often tell me that I don’t look my age,” she says. “I guess I’ve got good genes.”
Diane Lachance has always been very active. When she retired, her goal was to continue taking care of her health. Meditation helps her maintain a healthy state of mind, while yoga keeps her flexible. She also enjoys hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing and social dancing.
“Some younger people find it hard to keep up with me,” she says proudly.
What’s more, she is always open to new experiences. For over a year, she has been taking intensive Italian courses offered by Réseau FADOQ. These lessons will come in handy when she visits Italy, a trip she intends to make in the near future.
Diane Lachance believes it’s important to keep the brain active. That’s why she enrolled in an adult counselling program with TÉLUQ University.
“The best advice I could give is not to be afraid of getting older, not to think about your age,” she explains. “I can see in the mirror that I’m 62, but in my mind, it doesn’t show. I don’t think about my age. I’m more focused on what I want to achieve. It’s important to still have dreams and to follow your instincts. And above all, don’t let prejudices stop you.”
Diane Lachance became a FADOQ member in August 2022, mainly because of the Italian courses on offer. She was pleasantly surprised to find many activities that suit her tastes.
“I took part in a self-defence workshop that I really enjoyed. I also attended a spot-on talk entitled Bien vieillir malgré tout. I meet a lot of interesting people. It’s a great way to form a new network. The offer is varied and I like the physical activities on offer. In short, it’s all good.”
