Jeanne-Rose Verville insists that she is a simple woman leading an ordinary life. Yet there’s nothing ordinary about bowling at least three times a week—when you’re 98!
The Sherbrooke native is a member of a league at the Sher-Mont bowling alley. Bowling is a passion. But being with other people is what she appreciates most.
“I like to have fun with the ladies,” she says of the members of her league, many of whom have become friends. “That’s what attracted me to the bowling alley. Coming here does me a world of good.”
Jeanne-Rose Verville says she started bowling somewhat by chance at the age of 68. She first took up large-pin bowling with her husband. When he passed away, she set her sights on small-pin bowling, which she has been playing for almost 25 years.
“I don’t really have any, except that I’m very close to my family. When I see my children, my 24 grandchildren and my 17 great-grandchildren, it gives me a good dose of energy.”
Ms. Verville also says she has walked a lot in her life. She believes this probably explains why she’s still in such great shape, even though she’s on the verge of turning 100.
“Up until recently, I still took the bus. But then my children insisted on certain limits for me,” she laughs.
A FADOQ member for so long she can’t remember when she joined, Jeanne-Rose Verville plays cards regularly at Le reflet, a FADOQ club in Sherbrooke.
“It keeps me active. I love it. I have so much fun.”
