In June 2019, Jean-Yves Lebreux attended a talk given by Bruny Surin entitled “Dreaming of Success—and Persevering.” The former Olympian spoke of the importance of having dreams and challenges that can then be transformed into projects and become reality.
Jean-Yves Lebreux was bold; he stood up and announced a challenge he wanted to set himself. This was the beginning of his project to cross Quebec by bike from west to east. The goal of the 2,500 kilometer journey was to raise money for Opération Enfant Soleil.
On June 1st, the 66-year-old left Rouyn-Noranda for his birthplace—the Magdalen Islands. With his friend Mario Grondin, the young municipal sector retiree pedaled the roads of Quebec for 26 days, discovering both the beauty and the rigours of its different regions.
“We raised a total of $23,563 for sick children,” says Lebreux. It was unquestionably the most beautiful human experience of my life.”
The moral of this story is that you should never hesitate to stand up for your dreams. And despite the challenges of the journey, you can always stay motivated by a cause.
