With the COVID-19 pandemic raging on, Réseau FADOQ is concerned about excessive rent increases being imposed on seniors in private seniors residences (RPAs).
Réseau FADOQ shares the concerns of Fédération des centres d’assistance et d’accompagnement aux plaintes du Québec (FCAAP), which is calling for all rent increases to be deferred.
“We’ve received numerous reports from our members,” said Réseau FADOQ chair Gisèle Tassé-Goodman. “The COVID-19 lockdown also makes it impossible for renters to get in-person assistance from CAAPs. This is outrageous, and we demand a rent freeze now.”
Réseau FADOQ is also calling on private facilities not to bill residents for preventive measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
“The situation is particularly worrisome for people who pay through automatic withdrawals,” said Tassé-Goodman.
Réseau FADOQ has shared its concerns with the office of Marguerite Blais, the Minister Responsible for Seniors and Informal Caregivers, and expects to see something done.
